NV - No Date - Railroad Shortlines of Nevada Photograph :
These four photographs make a nice collection from a time in Nevada when shortlines were integral for integrating the mining and ranching infrastructure of the state. Four short-line railroad engines are presented in these photos. Approximate dimensions of the four photographs are 6 ¾”x4 ¼” and no mattes. 1)Profiles the Virginia & Truckee Railroad’s engine #14, the Esmeralda. The photo has high contrast except for fading on the top of the photo and focus is sharp. One can clearly read V&T RR on the side of the car. Esmeralda can be read on the side of the engine. 2)Profiles the Nevada Short Line’s No. 1 engine. Photograph has high contrast and focus is sharp. Nevada Short Line and the number 1 can be clearly read. The reverse of the photograph says this engine was built in 1879 and sold to Nevada Central in 1924 becoming their No. 6. Other historical events in the locomotive’s life are listed on the reverse. Both have R.E. Morrissey identified as the photographer. Morrissey worked out of Oakland. 3) Profiles number 14 engine of the Nevada-California-Oregon Railway. Photograph has high to medium contrast, the blacks are somewhat washed out and the focus is sharp. N-C-O RY., 14 and Nevada-California-Oregon can be read clearly. Photographer not identified. On the reverse, technical details of the engine are listed and a brief history is outlined. Number 14 was sold to S.P. and as their number 1, and then it was sold to N.C.N.G. as their number 9. 4) Shows the Colorado and Carson speeding away with cars and caboose. The engine number and photographer are unknown. There is a line running down the left of the photo, medium to high contrast and focus is good. C&C and be read on the side of the cars.
