The Old Dominion Mining Company was located outside of Keystone, Nye County, Nevada in Tybo (Hot Creek) Mining District. The town of Keystone was established as a company town for the mining company and never truly established itself as anything more than a mining camp. The population stayed low, never reaching any higher than 50, but that was enough to support two saloons. After the initial mining rush of 1867, the camp was mostly silent until the discovery of a rich silver deposit made in 1910. The Old Dominion Mining Company was incorporated in 1867 under the laws of Pennsylvania. The company offices were located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. This is a rare certificate because it has been financed by an eastern company in a time when it was nearly impossible for eastern financier companies to enter into business in the western mining interests. This lot consists of two documents, a stock certificate and a bond sheet. The first, the stock certificate, is Number 39 for 370 shares issued to Jacob Rheem on August 2nd, 1867. The bottom vignette is of two horses and an eagle on a shield with “Virtue, Liberty, & Independence” on the bottom. The company seal is included in red. The second document, the bond sheet has two parts. The first is the on the top and is has a decorative border and the terms of the bond, is Number 60 and is for the amount of $500.
