Lot of 2. Toiyabe Silver Mining Company and the Ruby Silver Mining Company certificates. Little is known of these mines. They were both located in the Pine Wood District which was originally in Humboldt County, but, by 1880, was located in Storey County. Both of these companies were incorporated under the laws of New York, which makes them unusual as it was very difficult for eastern U.S. financier companies to get a foot in the door in western mining. Both companies have the same president, Abel Bennett, though they have different secretaries. The Toiyabe certificate has a dark, thick border, a vignette of 3 miners in the top left, and decorative text and title. A 25-cent stamp is present as well. It was issued to E. W. Perry on May 30th, 1865 and is signed on the back. The Ruby certificate had a decorative border of flower-like circles, 2 vignettes (the first of 5 miners in the top left corner and the second under the title is of a mill/mine with miners and a horse-drawn wagon), and decorative text and title. It was issued to W. M. Hurst on Feb. 6, 1865. Both certificates are in good condition with minor age spots and yellowing.
