Lot of 11 silver bearing ore samples from the Lucky Boy Mine. With the discovery of rich silver-bearing veins in 1908 within the foothills of the Wassuk Range, the Lucky Boy Mine had substantial influence on the development of the town of Hawthorne - 5 miles to the north - and the establishement of Mineral County. But as with all mining stories, the ore shoots eventually played out and the Lucky Boy Mine faded into the annals of history. Samples within this ore range from 1 to 4 inches in daimater and are composed of friebergite, the silver bearing variety of tetrahedrite-tennantite, and galena within quartz-calcite-barite veins. Many samples have reported assays ranging 4000-6000 oz/t Ag, attesting to the rich nature of these veins. Most samples are pristine and likely collected at depth, though there are weathered vein samples in addition to supergene cerargyrite, cerrusite, and anglesite - the material early prospectors would have encountered while hunting for riches within the dry washes of 19th century Nevada.
