Small little Grantville gave rise to 2 Nevada inventions about this time, and was also the site of a lynching: The Gainesville Reporter (Alabama) noted in its February 17, 1881 edition that Matthias Salmon, “a bad character” who was under arrest for killing a man, had been lynched at Grantville on the 5th. but on a more positive note, Grantville was the home of Thomas J. Bell and Nathaniel A. Griffith, who acquired patents on a furnace for desulphurizing and chloridizing ores (1881) and an Improvement in Mechanism for Converting Motion in steam engines (1880).
