"Threats of violence in December 1907 moved Governor Sparks to call in federal troops though local authorities had not collapsed" [Paher, Nevada Ghost Towns and Mining Camps, 1973, p. 386]. Goldfield also suffered from a devastating flood in 1913 and then a fire a decade later. The fire destroyed over 53 square blocks [Paher, Nevada Ghost Towns and Mining Camps, 1973].
