Lot of 72 scenes, 29 photos, 43 RPCs, of Comstock mining life from 1858 to the 1930s. One humorously illustrated post card tells the story of how Virginia City got its name in 1859. There is some fading and stains, but it is in good condition.

There are several white bordered RPCs of the Ward Shaft crew and Ophir and Consolidated Virginia Mine workers.

Other photo and RPC subjects include The Belcher Mine, Union Mine, Yellow Jacket and the Chollar Mine. There are also RPCs of the Mexican Stamp Mill and duplicate color RPCs of the Ward Shaft. There is a letter on one, addressed to Miss K. Haley of Vallejo, California. The other is unmarked. Another color RPC shows the C & C Shaft with the notation “The place where I go every day to gather in my four bucks.” It’s signed R.J.B. and dated 1908. On the back is the name R.J. Bearr, Virginia City, Nevada.

One RPC shows a mule drawn railcar exiting Sutro Tunnel. Other RPCs are of Rutter’s Plant, a mine station, and a steam shovel working at the Arizona Mine, with Fourth Ward School in the background.

The V&T Railroad is the subject in three RPCs , including a shot of the very busy passenger depot, a doubleheader freight, with possibly the Tahoe taking the lead. An RPC of the Reno and a string of freight and passenger cars sitting at the train station. This RPC has a corner missing where the stamp was and has a postal cancellation stamp of 30 August 1911. RPC picture of two well-dressed gentleman in front of a Wells Fargo office, posing with stacked bricks of gold bullion, with the title, “Shipping one ton of Bullion from Virginia City, Nev. To Carson City Mint,” while another RPC from Mexican Mill displays a one week run of bullion. This item has tears and folds.
