Monsen/ at/ Pioneer Hall, No.5 Pioneer Place, Fourth St./ Tuesday Evening, April 3d, at 8 0'clock/ Tickets, Fifty Cents/ Good only when countersigned by H.W.L. Oliver (name hand-written in pen). Beige card with brown ink, measures 3" x 2 3/4". Frederick I. Monsen (1865-1929) was a successful photographer and lecturer on American Indian subjects. Norwegian-born, Monsen was brought to Utah when he was three-years old. He assisted his photographer father until his teens, worked as a photo journalist with W.H. Jackson, General Cook in the Apache campaign, photographed Death Valley in 1893, active in Yosemite in 1896. He established a San Francisco studio around 1900, then lost much of his life's work to the earthquake of 1906 [Ref: Mautz, 1977, pp. 126]. A few small spots, otherwise very fine.
