Columbus District. 1881. Cert. #78, issued at New York in 1881 for 50 shares. Location of Works: Columbus Mining District, Esmeralda County, Nevada printed at the top. U/C. Black and green on crème. Nice vignette of miners underground. The Columbus district is located central in the county and contained some of the largest producing mines. The mineral belt measured about 2 miles wide and over 4 miles in length. The Princess was located on the western ledge, along with the Northern Belle, Mount Diablo, General Jackson and the New England (Burchard 1882). The company also owned the White Mountain Water Co., which insured a free delivery of an ample water supply. The original Columbus district included all of the area between Teels Marsh, Rhodes Marsh, Fish Lake Valley, and the summit of the Monte Cristo Range. The townsite of Candelaria was formed in 1875 and the district was renamed Candelaria by 1880 (Mining Districts of Nevada, Tingley). Hamilton Bank Note, New York, printer.
