A beautifully framed and matted stock certificate and mineral specimen from the Monarch Consolidated Gold and Silver Mining Company, Douglas County, Nevada, the Silver Lake Mining District.

Incorporated in 1891, this is stock certificate number 75 issued for 1000 shares, to T.R. Hofer; signed by Hofer as President of the company. Hofer was cashier and president of the Bullion and Exchange Bank in Carson City. Also signed by the secretary, James R. Judge.

The original claim was located by the Raycraft brothers, early residents of Genoa who also operated a stage line. Located in the foothills of the Pinenut Mountains near the East end of Jacobson Lane, the mine was in the Raycraft family until 1932. In the 1940s it was operated by Dave Wood. In 1982, Bill Shipley acquired the mine from Don Bently. Specimen in the frame was found ni 1999, and is almost an inch across and a half inch high. The bronze colored frame is 14x12.5.
