This sheet of three unissued certificates is believed to be the only uncut sheet left in existence. All the certificates are signed by Leland Stanford as President. Stanford, one of the California “big four,” along with Collis Huntington, Charles Crocker, and Mark Hopkins, helped build the transcontinental railroad from California to Utah in the 1860s. He also was an early Governor of CA from 1861 to 1863, and an U. S. Senator from the state from 1885-1893. As an early settler in California, he took part in the Vigilance Committee in San Francisco in 1856 as well. This company was the first consolidation of mines in Bodie. The mines consolidated were the Cumberland, Bunker Hill, North America, St. Charles, New Mexico, Main Top, Osceola, Mizzen Top, Fore Top, Oneida, and Izabella. A very colorful stock, pink and yellow, with a vignette of a cornucopia spilling over with coins on the left and another vignette under the company masthead of a mountain scene with all the mine names listed on it. Excellent condition. Preserved under plastic and comes with a cardboard mounting frame.
