NV - 1916 - Nevada and California G.A.R. Ribbons :
Lot of two ribbons from the California and Nevada department of the G.A.R. (Grand Army of the Republic), which was one of the first fraternal organizations established in this county, by veterans of the Union Army who served in the Civil War. It was founded in April 6, 1866 by Benjamin F. Stephenson in Decatur, IL, and focused on the principles of “Fraternity, Charity and Loyalty.” The first ribbon, 8” long, has black print on a light gold silk ribbon and reads: Department California and Nevada G.A.R. (picture of oil rigs), 49th Annual Encampment, May 9-13, 1916, Bakersfield, California. The second ribbon is smaller, 6” in length, and has California and Nevada printed in black on a darker gold ribbon.
