The model (she appears in some other stereoscopic daguerreotypes of the period) here displays her sinuous body -- an 1850's nude whose curves foreshadow the later nudes of Matisse. The tambourine gives this a little orientalist flavor, but also justifies the pose with lifted arms. There is little else required other than the curtains in the background. The oval images are contained in black rectangles, which are placed within a stippled gold field. This appears to have the original black tape and backing.
