NRA Silver Medal Ten Best Arms Award for 2008 Remington Model 1861 Army percussion revolver, Nimschke style engraved, .44 cal., 8” octagon barrel, blue finish, wood grips, #3470. This gun is in very fine condition showing approx. 95% original finish on metal surfaces, outstanding engraving with two panel scenes, one of a lynx, the other of a wolf in relief on either side of the top front frame; floral and scroll designs on the rest of the frame, cylinder, rammer, brass trigger guard and iron back strap. The hammer shows considerable case colors, the bore is very fine, the action crisp and the barrel address is sharp. The grips are excellent showing just a couple of minor scratches and loss to the varnish. According to the NRA plaque (included with lot as is the NRA silver medal) this is the only engraved Model 1861 Civilian Remington known.
