82. [NORTHERN PACIFIC RAILROAD]

Advertising imprint by Jay Cooke & Co. for a gold loan to develop the railroad in the American Northwest. Broadside, 10"x17", New York, ca 1870s. Interesting advertisement promoting the “New 7-30 Gold Loan” at 7% per annum for 30 years, principal and interest payable in gold, or if desired converted at 1.10 into real estate. As fiscal agent for the Railroad, Cooke relates the investment to government bonds for value and safety. The broadside describes the land granted the railroad, the “Emigration Scheme” to settle and develop the land, work already begun, services to be provided by the railroad, etc. On verso is a map illustrating the route of the railroad and the cities it connects. Dark embossed print. Minor marginal tears; some show-through of map; o/w Fine. Scarce example.
