NORTH VIETNAMESE PERSONALIZED COLONEL’S SWORD

BELONGING TO DAI-TA VO VAN-THANH. A very seldom seen North Vietnamese Officer’s sword with original “WAR TROPHY REGISTRATION\AUTHORIZATION”. The sword was captured by Sgt. Steven R. Brooks at Khe Sahn in 1968. Sword measures 36" overall with a 26 1/4" blade. Plain blade has a raised medial ridge and is engraved near the ricasso “DAI-TA VO VAN-THANH”, which translates to Colonel Vo Van-Thanh. Gilded brass hilt with a foliate & dragon decorated guard. The knuckle bow has a raised ridge and the pommel cap has sprigs of bamboo. Wire wrapped composite grip. Yellow & red sword knot attached. Gilded brass mounted black enameled scabbard. The scabbard is etched near the throat “DAI-TA VO VAN-THANH”. CONDITION: blade shows some original factory polish. Hilt shows much of the original gilding. Grip shows light wear and the knot shows moderate wear. Scabbard shows light wear overall with some loss of enamel on the scabbard body. PROVENANCE: From the Lifelong Collection of Glen E. Mattox.
