This 34.5 x 60 two grey hills rug features a thin, tight weave of the traditional black, natural, pale tan, medium tan, dark tan, and brown wools. Thin white border line. The presence of a spirit line (see photo for detail) indicates that a conscientious native weaver created this piece. Spirit lines in contemporary textiles are often found on rugs made in the area of Two Grey Hills, New Mexico, although weavers from other areas have incorporated them. Their use and their specific meaning is highly personal and varies from weaver to weaver. The spirit line is used to ensure that the weaver`s spirit is not trapped in the textile. This rug also features clear lazy lines, which indicate where the weaver worked on one portion of the rug, stopped, and moved on to another section, elaving a diagonal joint between stitches in the same color block. Lazy lines are considered a good marker of authenticity, as Navajos are known to weave in blocks while many other weavers do not. Very good condition. From the Tahoe Wovoka Estate Collection.
