Research indicates the man who had this souvenir made was L.L. Burkhead, Columbus Postmaster who escaped with his wife and son on the night of Pancho Villa's bloody raid. Burkhead and his family are believed to be eye witnesses to the looting, burning and killing perpetrated by Pancho and his Villistas and he later testified for the U.S. Government in hearings held in 1919-20 to esablish a legal case against the Mexican government for damages caused in U.S. Border areas during the last years of the Mexican Revolution. The story of an identical fob to this one aired on Episode 701 of History Detectives, a PBS broadcast. In that story, Richard Dean, President of the Columbus Historical Society, gives evidence of the fob's history and determines there are only two others known. This would be number three. Transcripts from that episode are included with the fob. Both of the other two can be traced directly back to Burkhead. Made by S.D. Childs & Co. Chicago. Appears to be silver. - Vinegar Collection
