From Bisbee, AZ, 1936. 3) AZ GAR National Encampment, 1912, "Delegate, N.M.G.A.R., 1906. The Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) was a fraternal organization of Union Army veterans who served in the Civil War. Founded in 1866 in Decatur, Illinois, it dissolved in 1956 following the death of its last member. One of the first organized advocacy groups in American politics, it supported voting rights for black veterans, lobbying Congress to establish veterans' pensions, and supported various Republican political candidates. - Vinegar Collection
