This photogravure on vellum depicts a plate from Edward Sheriff Curtis` massive volumes, The North American Indian. This piece is titled Native Conception of Histiani-Kowasutyi (`Flint Wing`), The Thunderbird-Acoma. The colors are vibrant and the printed title is clear. The framing measures 15 x 15 and the visible image measures approximately 7.5 x 7.5, while the full image is certainly larger but cannot be measured due to the framing and matting. The image is contained within finely selected matting with a Navajo border pattern, and the entire piece is framed in TruGuard anti-UV glass, which is of archival, museum quality. Acoma Pueblos use thunderbird figured regularly in their artwork and mythology. The thunderbird is believed to be a protector and bringer of thunderstorms. Wovoka Collection HKA#63048
