Excellent association I.S.P. 13 1/2" x 11" overall, b/w, athe famous photograph showing Nimitz (seated) as he signs the Japanese Instrument of Suurender onboard the USS Missouri on Sep. 2, 1945, as Admiral Bill Halsey and Gen. Rolland, USCG - Commandant, U.S. Coast Guard - with best wishes, warm regards and great appreciation of the contribution of the U.S. Coast Guard to the war effort that made possible the above scene. C.W. Nimitz, Fl. Adm. USN". Mounted, some dampstaining at upper margin easily matted out, else very good. Also included is a smaller version of the same image, 7 3/4" x 7", to which Nimitz added a note at bottom: "Key to the large surrender picture. The ship in the upper part of the picture is HMS Duke of York. - British Flagship" A blurred entry at upper-righ identifies one of the attendees, thin glue stain at bottom margin. During World War II, Admiral Edwin J. Roland served as Commander, Escort Division, a unit of Task Force 60 which escorted convoys from the United States to Mediterranean ports.
