P. JONES. Cal. 12 Ga. 2 3/4". S# 14220. The 27 3/8" sleeved chopper lump bbls. w/ matted game rib are engraved "W. P. Jones" "25, Whitall Street Birmingham" on tops. There are 1/2" triangles of scroll engraving at breech ends & scroll engraving in bands covering bbl. sleeving joint. Bbl. flats are stamped w/ Birmingham reproofs for 2 3/4" chambers. Birmingham proofs are also on bottoms of bbls. Coin finished Rogers' patent sidelock action features nonautomatic safety ("SAFE" inlaid in gold), crossbolt 3rd fastener, side clips, bushed strikers & dbl. triggers. Action is nicely filed & has attractive, deep chiseled fences in ribbon pattern. Action & lockplates are engraved w/ near full coverage very nicely cut, varying size scroll w/ sm. rose bouquet highlights & larger bursts of shaded scroll surrounding central bouquets at rear of plates & w/ another larger but similar area on bottom of action w/ blossoms in a vase. "J. W." trademark is on bottom front of action. Lockplates are engraved "W. P. JONES" in scrolled banners. Blued trigger guard w/ matching scroll has S# on tang. Nicely marbled & finely flame figured European walnut straight grip buttstock measures 14 3/8" over "Silver" type pad by "London Guns" & features classic styling w/ drop points, point pattern checkering & gold oval engraved "J.W.H.". Matching splinter Baker ejector forend has Anson release. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: R .730", L .729" . Restriction: R .009" (IC), L .024" (MOD). Min. Wall Thickness: R .030", L .035". STOCK: DAH: 2 7/16". DAC: 1 5/8". LOP: 14 3/8". CAST: neutral. WEIGHT: 6 lb. 14 oz. UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: gun is housed in a vintage green canvas leather trimmed case w/ brass corners. Initials are "G. R. H. P." on top. Interior is lined in reddish cloth w/ reproduction Jones label in lid, along w/ 2 business cards, one for Geoffrey Pierce, the other for William P. Jones, Gun Manufacturers. CONDITION: fine as refurbished. Bbls. retaining nearly all of a good quality reblack, most likely done at time of sleeving. Action is cleaned to coin finish & remains bright. Engraving is well preserved. Top lever, forend iron & trigger guard are reblued & show only a hint of silvering. Stocks retain nearly all of a good quality oil refinish w/ scattered marks, sharp edges somewhat rounded, checkering recut. Bores are bright & shiny, action is tight. Ejectors are very slightly out of time. Case is dark w/ minor scuffs & rubs. Straps & handle are good. Interior cloth is somewhat faded w/ rubs, compressions & soiling. (22-1903/MGM).
