NICELY REFURBISHED JOHN DICKSON STEEL BARRELLED

SXS HAMMERGUN. Cal. 12 Ga., 3". S# 3916. Factory records indicate that this was a breech loading double shotgun with 32" bbls. sold in 1884. It presently has 30" dovetailed bbls. engraved "John Dickson & Son 63 Princes Street. Edinburgh" on top rib which is also engraved with the number "2". "2" Is also on top lever and forend iron. Bbl. flats are stamped with London black powder proofs and Birmingham Nitro reproofs for 3" chambers. Flats are also stamped with "JD & S" and serial number. Case hardened top lever action is fitted with front spring rebounding locks with racey serpentine hammers having spurs set well to the rear. Action and locks are engraved with near full coverage well cut small scroll. "John Dickson & Sons" is on bottom of each lockplate. Trigger guard with scroll on bow has serial number on tang. Relatively new high quality buttstock of nicely marbled and quilted figure European walnut measures 15 1/8" over checkered wood butt and features nicely shaped drop points and well cut point pattern checkering around grip. Matching splinter forend has Anson release. MEASUREMENTS: BBLS: Bore Diameter: R .726", L .736". Restriction: R 0" (CYL), L .008" (IC). Min. Wall Thickness: R .028", L .017". STOCK: DAH: 1 15/16". DAC: 1 5/16". LOP: 15 1/8". CAST: approx. 1/2" off. WEIGHT: 6 lb. 10 oz. CONDITION: good as refurbished. Bbls. retaining over 95% of a good quality reblack with some light handwear on sides above forend. Action shows cleaning to pewter gray with some original color remaining where protected. Newly made stocks retain nearly all of their fine hand rubbed oil finish with a few light scratches and marks. Checkering shows little wear. Bores are bright and shiny with evidence of dent removal in left bbl. about 10" behind muzzle. Action is tight. Bbls. are on face. Locks are good. (01-21784/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,500-2,500.
