1768 (Oct 2) Mosquito shore to Philadelphia Pa. via New York, folded ALS datelined "Muskety/Chor the 2 of october" and signed "Christian Frederick Post" (hinged partially obscures), carried by private ship to New York, entered the mails with NEW YORK two-line handstamp and 29 NO Franklin mark, manuscript "Sh 2.16" ship rating to Philadelphia, docketed from "Frederick Post, Musquitto Shore", some faults. FINE. AN EARLY AND EXTREMELY RARE AMERICAN MISSIONARY LETTER FROM THE 18TH CENTURY.Christian Frederick Post was a missionary starting around 1743 with the Moravian Indians in New York and Connecticut. After various missions, he sailed for the Mosquito coast in 1764, where he labored two years, and made a second visit there in 1767. This letter was written during his second mission to the Mosquito Coast.
