complete, original 4pp edition of the Boston Independent Chronicle and the Universal Register (New York), dated April 16, 1789. Inside, full column, very early report of the election of George Washington as first President of the U.S. and John Adams as the first Vice President. The text reads in part: A convocation of both Houses, Sorted and counted the (electoral) votes for President - which are as follows His Excellency George Washington, 69, being the whole number. His Excellency John Adams, 34...The Senate then made the choice of Charles Thomson...to bear the dispatches to the President General.
