With a presentation inscription from Newman to the Rt Hon The Earl of
Rosebery, dated July 18, 1885 and with the Rosebery Bookplate and a neat stamp 'Rosebery Durdans' on the titlepage. Rosebery first met Newman in 1880 and paid his respects to Newman's corpse in 1890.
Inserted is a 3 page letter in Newman's hand to Dr Keningale Cook, author, and husband of the novelist and Theosophist Mabel Collins, offering to lend him portrait photographs of himself. The book also contains the bookplate of Ian Malcolm of Poltalloch.
