With most of a lifetime spent
in art, from neon sign design to
advertising art; show cards to
magazine illustration and art director
for ad agencies, Newman finally is
able to paint fulltime. Subjects vary
from cowboys and Indians, Alaska
fishing and Mexican market scenes.
After army infantry duty in World War
II in Europe and occupation duty in
Japan, he attended the Art Institute
of Pittsburgh, PA. Newman worked
in Chicago, then Portland, OR, where
he worked many years in the art field.
Newman is a charter member of the
Western Rendezvous of Art and has
participated in all their shows. He
has received several awards including
the Heritage Award in 2000, 2002,
and 2003. In 2004 he won the Legacy
Award which was purchased by the
Montana Historical Society. Newman
is married to Diane and resides in
Helena, Montana.
