PATCHBOX BY JAMES JENNISON OF SOUTHBRIDGE MASS. RECONVERTED TO FLINTLOCK. Cal. 58. NSN. Bbl. 41 3/4" oct., fitted w/ V-notch rear & brass blade front sights is marked. "J. JENNISON" on top flat in front of rear sight. A trade lock which is unmarked is newly fitted w/ serpentine cock, rounded pan & friction frizzen. Fruitwood half stock has horn tip, sm. right hand cheekpiece & checkering at grip. Stock is brass mounted w/ showy horse head patchbox on right side. Cover, side panels & pierced horses head finial are nicely feather & fern engraved. Shallow crescent buttplate w/ patchbox cover release button in top tang has 4" return w/ spear finial. Faceted trigger guard has spurred grip. Stock attaches to bbl. w/ 2 side bolts through thin brass ovate escutcheons. Old hickory ramrod is held by 2 plain pipes in oak underrib & matching thimble. CONDITION: good. Bbl. w/ dark brown to black patina overall has considerable erosion at breech end & has been converted back to flint w/ bushed touch hole. Lock also reconverted. Stock has old refinish, brass w/ fairly old toned surfaces. Bore is smooth w/ some pitting. PROVENANCE: The Estate Collection of Gary Parietti. (01-19307/MGM). ANTIQUE. $1,000-2,000.
