NEEDLEWORK MEMORIAL.
Probably New England, late 18th century, silk, ink and watercolor on silk. Young couple with child mourning at grave of eight- year-old Sally Gilbert who died in 1789. Additional headstones in the church yard note other family members including Samuel Gilbert Esq. Attributed to Westfield, Massachusetts. Good colors. Some imperfections. In a frame, 21 1/2"h. 24"w. Ex Paul Carpenter, Sold at Garth's, October 2, 1997, lot 17.

Condition: Some staining, thread loss and silk damage. Frame and eglomise are not original. Background has split.
