NEBRASKA KLONKLAVE MEETING MINUTES
Large collection of minutes of 'Klonklaves' of a Klan lodge in western Nebraska from 1926 to 1932, 11.5 x 9.75 inches. Notes include assessments of Nebraska political candidates up for election, rules on bootleggers, a disagreement with school district number 19 being brought to Klan court, a 1929 letter from the Grand Dragon, elections for Klan positions, membership nominations, and other Klan happenings. The Nebraska political candidates are listed with their names and party affiliations with either a judgment of 'OK' or 'Wet', meaning not endorsed. In minutes from January 7, 1927, the secretary writes, 'Motion made by Art Nord seconded by S.E. Adlains that hereafter any member of the Klan giving any aid or assistance in any form to any bootlegger or manufacturer of illicit liquor or help to obtain a bond in appearance court or sending notice of a sheriff raid, said member shall be banished permanently, without fear or favor. Motion carried.' In a letter from the Grand Dragon dated October 1929, he writes, 'A splendid report, Kl. Hill, and I want to congratulate your Klan. Just keep up the good work and you will soon have one of the best Klans in that Province.' The Grand Dragon also goes on to state that help will be given to this Nebraska Klan about a KWAND team. KWAND may refer to a second degree, once referred to as Knights Kamelia, later KWAND. Included in lot are several membership forms for KWAND degrees. In an undated letter, the Klan is informed of the Papal-Italian treaty which recognized Vatican City as a sovereign state under the rule of the Holy See. 'Do you appreciate the real significance of that insidious document? Do you realize how it will affect the Protestant world in general?...Do you know that if the United States recognized the said agreement that Roman Catholic nuns, priests, bishops, archbishops and cardinals would not be subject to the civil laws of our country? Do you fully realize what such a situation would mean to our government if we were ever forced to war with a Roman Catholic nation? These and dozens of other questions regarding the Roman Question will be answered by a competent speaker who is being sent to us by the Realm office on the date, time and place stated below.' Approx. 100 pages, 11 x 8.5 inches. Binder holes and tears on edges of pages.
