ALVIN D. CHANDLER (1902-1987) Ameriocan admiral. During the Guadalcanal Campaign Chandler commanded Destroyer Division 41 in the Battle of Rennell Island. He was director of logistics plans for the U.S. Navy when he retired to accept the presidency of the College of William & Mary (1951). Large grouping of correspondence, reports, etc., 1926-50 and many war-date, referring to the service of Adm. Chandler in the U.S. Navy for largely the extent of his career. In all, about 100pp. including his 1926 commission in the Navy as Lieutenant, J.G., notice from the Secretary of the Navy of his appointment to Captain, letters from destroyer group commander Adm. Francis X. McInerney, his 1925 appointment as a Navy aviator, multiple letters on USS OKLAHOMA letterhead aboard which Chandler served as a lieutenant, also USS AUGUST, USS TENNESSEE, orders fitness reports, operational reports, commendations and complimentary letters, and much more.
