NAVAJO FINGER DRUM AND CARRYING CASE. 1) Gourd drum: culture / origin, date and use unknown. Linear designs applied with pyrography (woodburning") to outer surface of semi-spherical gourd base; thin rawhide drum head secured with three pegs (one missing), and one ring peg for suspension. Size: Diameter, oval: 5-1/4" / 4-1/4". CONDITION: Two tears in margin of rawhide, general soiling of rawhide. 2) Carrying case: modern, constructed of two pcs cut from a Hispanic weaving from Chimayo', New Mexico. Strap made of cinching material ending with leather fringes; three metal conchas and turkey tail feathers attached—one each on triangular flap, and at each upper corner of pouch. Driebe 1997, pg 337 Size: Overall length of pouch is 28-1/2", pouch proper is 10-1/4" x 9-1/2". CONDITION: Overall soiling and use wear, margins of strap frayed at midsection. 4-55260 (600-800)"
