NATURAL DIAMOND CRYSTAL IN KIMBERLITE MATRIX
Mir Pipe, Yakutsk, Siberia
The average diamond miner rarely sees a diamond in situ. There are two reasons for this: A. Diamonds occur typically on the order of a carat or two to a ton of host rock. B. The mining company would rather that the miner never sees a diamond while mining. It tends to give people ideas. As a consequence; few matrix specimens are ever seen before the 'ore' is sent to the crusher to free the stones from their rocky prison. This sharp, octahedral crystal is still attached to a remnant of the Kimberlite 'Blue Ground' that carried it upward from deep in the Earth in an explosive volcanic event hundreds of millions of years ago. The crystal weighs approximately 0.85 carats. It appears to be colorless and gemmy although this can only be verified by removing it from its matrix. Parker Minerals label with an accession number 49W5515 on the specimen.

Shipping: Requires 3rd Party Shipping (view shipping information)
