Staple-bound NASA Technical Note (TN D-2160), entitled "Parametric Performance Analysis for Interplanetary Missions Utilizing First-Generation Nuclear Stages," 8 x 10.5, 185 pages, dated October 1964. The summary reads: "The effect of earth thrust-to-weight ratios and specific impulses on trajectory parameters has been investigated for hyperbolic escape from, and braking into, an orbit about each of the planets Mars and Venus, and also for escape from Earth. For the escape trajectories, the thrust vector was applied tangential to the flight path and in the direction of the velocity vector. For the braking-in trajectories, the thrust vector was directed against the velocity vector. Specific impulses of 600 to 1000 seconds and thrust-to-weight ratios of 0.05 to 0.5 were used. The range of parameters considered is thought to be the most practical for interplanetary missions utilizing first-generation nuclear stages. The results of the study are presented graphically." Following a brief introduction and analysis of methods, the report consists almost entirely of graphs documenting the findings of the study.
