The NASA pajamas of the American Shuttle-astronaut R.W. Cunningham, a maiden aviator of the Apollo program

This is a two-piece light blue cotton suit, consisting of jacket and pants. The jacket has got a collar, in front a zipper and at chest height on every side a pocket with zipper. This kind of light blue cotton suit was worn by American shuttle-astronauts for sleeping. This is the personal pajama of the astronaut Ronnie Walter Cunningham (b. 1932). He flew as the second pilot in 1968 with Apollo 7 to the first manned Apollo flight. He tested the Apollo spaceship under space conditions together with his astronaut colleagues Walter Schirra and Donn Eisele. They returned back to earth after eleven successful days in space.

In addition to the pajamas, there is a framed photography where R.W. Cunningham is depicted in the blue suit sitting next to a Saturn rocket model of the Apollo 7 mission. In the lower right part, there is a hand-written dedication: “To Rick – Warm Personal Regards Wal Cunningham Apollo 7”.

The jacket bears the name ‘R.W. Cunningham’, the NASA-meatball and the Schirra Eisele Cunningham VII patch. The jacket has got a sewed in tag with inscriptions.

The suit shows normal wear. There is a stain on the reverse of the pants. There is rust at the clip of the pants. The dimensions are 58 x 60 cm (jacket), 53 cm (arm length) and 103 x 41 cm (pants).
