Kenney</b> writes a confidential letter to Ralph Buckley in NY regarding War Department dispatches reporting the events at Leipzig which occurred Oct 16-19, 1813.. ALS, 3pp, 4to, Washington City, Dec 31, 1813. In part, “<i>A dispatch vessel arrived at Norfolk from England & is to wait a few days for answers to the dispatches she brought. I was in the company of the Secretary of War at his private lodgings late in the evening when the dispatches were handed to him, he red [sic] them to me. They related to the complete overthrow of Bonaparte after a sanguinary battle of 3 days. His loss 80000 men 200 pieces of artillery, many of his best officers. The last account left him in full retreat for the Rhine but I have good reason for believing the dispatches contain more important news as it respects America. I think the Government has recd. letters from Mr</i>. [John Quincy] <i>Adams tho’ all is silent on that ...the question was asked is there any news from our envoys, if so what is it. A smile was all the answer given by a noble Secretary...brought out the British proposals, what they are the public will not at this time know</i>...” Cryptically, Kenney advises Buckley, “<i>I give you this news to post you on your guard. If anything transpires further I shall let you know...I shall expect to receive a letter of advice from you at Baltimore</i>...” More in this regard. Boldly penned. 11. All bidding is done in a competitive manner. The
winning bid will always be one bidding increment
over the second highest bid. The minimum
acceptable bid for any lot is 50% of the low
estimate given in the item description or $25,
whichever is higher.

12. Payment is expected immediately upon receipt of
invoice. All accounts are payable to Signature
House. Payment must be made in U.S. funds. Wire
transfer details are available upon request.
West Virginia residents will pay a sales tax of
6% unless a resale number is filed with us prior
to the closing date. For sales outside of the USA
a credit card is requested.

13. Shipment is made via U.S. Postal Service or
Airborne unless otherwise instructed. Handling,
shipping and insurance charges are added to the
invoice. Oversize and foreign shipments are subject
to increased charges. All items are shipped

14. Golden Guarantee: All material is returnable within
seven days providing that it comes back in the same
condition. There is a lifetime guarantee on
authenticity to the original purchaser. The item(s)
must be returned with two letters denying it’s
