NAMEPLATE "ZANZIBAR". This 29" cast brass, curved nameplate was carried on the left side of the LMS 'Jubilee' Class 5XP 4-6-0, LMS 5638, built at Crewe as Works No. 199 in December 1934. It was named on 14th April 1936, and became BR 45638 in June 1948. Initially allocated to Crewe North, it spent periods at Derby, Preston, Crewe North, Carlisle Upperby; Crewe North; Longsight; Edge Hill; Longsight again (1943-60); Aston and finally Warrington from where it was withdrawn in March 1964 to be cut up at Crewe Works in April. The plate is face-polished and repainted only. The only steam nameplate to have two Z's.
