NAMEPLATE "NATAL COLONY". This lovely old nameplate was carried by the GWR '3300 Bulldog' Class 4-4-0 3458. It was built at Swindon as Works No. 2041 in January 1904 under Lot 148 at a cost of £1,816 plus £425 for the tender. Initially allocated to New Milford (renamed Neyland in 1906); she spent periods at Landore (during which time she was superheated in September 1910, and renumbered 3396 on 28th December 1912); Hereford; Newport Ebbw; Bristol (1939-42) and finally Didcot from 1943 from where she was withdrawn on 1st March 1948 to be cut up at Swindon Works. She had run 1,272,841 miles in service.
