NAMEPLATE “BONAVENTURA”. This GWR ‘combined name and numberplate’ (often known as “Ringers”) was carried by the ‘3300 Bulldog’ class 4-4-0 3354 built at Swindon as Works No. 1807 in June 1900 under Lot 124 at a cost of £1,844 plus another £406 for the tender. She was superheated in July 1911 and renumbered 3342 in December 1912. Initially allocated to Newton Abbot, she moved briefly to Chester; Truro; Plymouth; Laira; Newton Abbot again; Didcot; and Banbury before spending longer spells at Swindon; Banbury again; Bristol; Weymouth; Gloucester; Laira and finally Chester. She was withdrawn in October 1938 and cut up at Swindon. An oval cast brass plate, 26”x5½”, face-restored only with the engine/boiler details clear in the rim. The number “3354” is clearly stamped into the ex-loco back.
