N. York Marked Kentucky Flintlock Rifle

Manufactured circa 1800-1820. The top barrel flat is marked "MOORE N. YORK" between the breech and rear sight, and there is an unrecognizable recessed oval proof marking on the upper left flat at the breech (possibly a contract rifle for New York). The lock is unmarked and has simple line border engraving. Brass mountings including the Harpers Ferry style patch box with a push button release on the buttplate tang. Blade front and fixed iron rear sights, grip extended trigger guard, wooden ramrod secured by four brass pipes and mounted on a full length straight grip curly maple stock with a cheekpiece and brass buttplate.

Very good. The rifle remains in its original flintlock configuration. The barrel has a smooth mottled gray and brown patina. The remaining metal surfaces have a smooth dark patina. The brass has natural untouched dark aged patina. The stock is also very good. The forward stock pin is absent and the stock is loose in that area, otherwise the stock retains most of the original finish, and shows scattered minor dents and scratches. The barrel marking is clear. The action is fine.
