<B>Nolan Miller 1870s Period Costume for Elizabeth Taylor in her Role as Alice Moffat in the 1987 Movie <I>Poker Alice.</B></I></B></I> 1987; Dress: Silk satin, cotton muslin, bobbin lace; Label: Nolan Miller; Dress Size: 4/6; Shoe Size: 8 and 8 1/2.<BR><BR>This lot includes two boned fitted bodice tops and a floor-length skirt with train in pink, silk satin and two pairs of dyed to match silk 2 1/2" heel shoes. The primary bodice was worn by Elizabeth Taylor and features a wide scalloped "sweetheart" neckline. The full gathered poof sleeve is elbow length, lined in pink silk satin and shaped between the layers with netting. The neck, waist and sleeve cuff are trimmed in a heavy pink bobbin lace. Pink silk satin rosettes are placed at the shoulder, at the cuff of the sleeve and at the back center waist with a snap to secure two rosettes together over zipper. The bodice back is closed with a zipper and hook & eye. The bodice is lined in cotton muslin. At the neck line are a series of stays holding the scalloped edge of the lace in place. At the waist is a ribbon band tied in and secured with a hook & eye. The label secured on the right-side seam of the lining reads "Nolan Miller" and embroidered right of the zipper is "ET." At the lower back right is a snap to secure bodice to skirt. <BR><BR>The second fitted bodice, for the stunt double, was used in a heated fight scene. It is identical to the primary bodice, except that the label reading "Nolan Miller" is sewn in at the neckline back. Also at the neckline is a strip of elastic anchored in a "catch" stitch.<BR><BR>The floor-length skirt in pink silk satin has a 24" train and is lined in muslin with three snaps to secure the waist opening. At the waist are two pink silk satin overskirts, lined in pink satin. The back overskirt spans the side seams in a double inverted pleat, sloping down to floor length. The right side is fixed and the left side is attached with a hook & eye, for access to the back zipper closure. The front overskirt is 28" at its lowest point, wrapping the skirt and attaching at the back closure. All hemmed edges of the skirt and overskirts are trimmed in pink "bobbin" lace. The front overskirt is trimmed with satin rosettes. A snap joins the rosettes of the bodice to the overskirt. A label reading "Nolan Miller" is sewn in left of the zipper, and on the ribbon waist is embroidered "ET." <BR><BR>Accompanying the costume are two pair of satin 2 1/2 " heel shoes, dyed to match with a satin rosette on the toe. The inside label reads "Saks Fifth Avenue Fenton Last." <BR><BR>Included with this lot is a b&w copy of a photograph of Elizabeth Taylor in the dress. Individual elements of this costume are in Very Good condition, however there is an uneven fading between pieces so that the primary bodice no longer matches the skirt. The bodice top embroidered "ET" has faded overall, no longer matching the skirt. On the stunt double bodice, the seams between the arm and the bodice have had repairs. Apparently after the last fight scene, the damaged arm seams and seams securing the lace along the bodice came apart, and have been left unrepaired. (The fight scene was downright brutal!) There are also pulls in the satin on the lower back panels. On the back overskirt there is a green stain at the left edge. <I>From the Nolan Miller Collection.</B></I><B>Condition Report:</B> Normal signs of wear as appropriate with age. BR The bodice top embroidered "ET" has faded overall.
