My Boy (First National, 1921). Exhibitor's Mailer (21.5 My Boy (First National, 1921).
My Boy (First National, 1921). Exhibitor's Mailer (21.5" X 33"). After Jackie Coogan's success in Charlie Chaplin's "The Kid," he got an early starring role in this Sol Lesser silent film. Jackie is running from immigration officers after his mother dies on the ship to America. Gruff old Captain Bill (Claude Gillingwater) hides him, and in gratitude, Jackie takes care of him -- feeding him his medicine and dancing on the street for money. This mailer was sent out to exhibitors to urge them to book the film, and to give them an idea of what the poster would look like. Both sides have great shots of Coogan, with several scenes from the film, including several with Gillingwater. The mailer has edge wear and tears with small chips, toning on the edge and fold lines, and some light wrinkling. There are tape marks in two of the corners. A most unusual piece from this touching silent film it is probably the only copy extant. Fine+.
