Late 18th Century Colonial & Revolutionary War Era, Hand-Carved Treenware Welsh Spoon or Scoop, “Folk Art” Decorated, Measures 7.5” long with 3.5” bowl, Choice Extremely Fine.
This original, 18th Century Treenware Spoon measures 7.5” long and has a 3.5” diameter bowl, of single wooden piece all Maple construction. It has a extremely well designed simple carved design on the handle and outer edge of the deep, slightly oval bowl. Original natural dark brown patina overall on the handle and inside of the bowl. Just a wonderful example of a well decorated, 18th Century Welsh spoon or scoop, sometimes called “Marriage Spoons.” “Folk Art” Decorated with two triangular insets within the handle and Five Pointed Star within a zigzag carved outer design at the edges.
