Murshidabad Mint, Silver Double Rupee / 2 Rupees, 22.63g, struck at the Fulta mint, in the name of Shah Alam II, AH 1198/26, with an edge inscription * UNITED * EAST * INDIA* COMPANY * 1784, series of 1780 - 1785 (Paul Stevens Bengal Presidency 3.1, Prid 346, KM Pn9). Mount skilfully removed, Very Fine+, Extremely Rare. This is the largest denomination in the silver pattern series ever produced for the Bengal Presidency. It was minted at the Fulta mint under the authority of John Prinsep. Upon the termination of his contract with the government, John Princep had sent a series of gold, silver and copper patterns of the Bengal standard and impression. This showed that the Fulta mint was equipped with advanced machinery including edge collars, which would later become available at Calcutta.
