Murder My Sweet (RKO, 1944). Three Sheet (41" X 81"). Until the early release of this film, Dick Powell was known as a "song and dance man," having starred in many of the early Warner Brothers musicals. But by the early forties Powell's career was in a downturn. When director Ed Dmytryk decided to take a chance on casting Powell as the hard-nosed private eye Philip Marlowe, there was a good bit of resistance from the studio. The studio renamed the film from its original title, "Farewell My Lovely" from the bestselling Raymond Chandler novel, as they were afraid the public might think this was another Powell musical! What was produced is considered to be one of the great early landmark film noir. This very rare three sheet has pinholes, and fold wear with separations, some loss of paper and tape on the back. The poster has been mounted on linen to stabilize it and has had some minor restoration. It presents very well, with great images of Powell and Anne Shirley. Fine+ on Linen.
