Rare! We have not offered this before. Organized in New York, September 1869. No. 273, issued for 500 shares to Mrs. Charlotte Newton in 1870 in New York. Signed by vice president Murray and secretary Manghton. Not cancelled. Ornate border, with mining and eagle vignettes and green underprint. 25 cent US IR stamp attached at lower left. 8.5 x 11" Pinholes, folds, creases. Mine property on Treasure Hill, White Pine District, Nevada. According to a Sept. 28, 1869 Grass Valley Union article, John L. Bigler (not the CA governor) was hired as an agent of a prospecting company. He was told to go to this spot by a clairvoyant(!) in New York City. While at first it did not seem promising, he hit chloride at 75 feet and was seeing promising signs at 100 feet. "The work has been prosecuted under the direction of the New York clairvoyant...and the believers in spiritualism are backing with cash..." Fantastic; we have never had a Nevada mining stock with such a unique story!
