Unsigned speech notes on seven lined 8 x 5 cards, taken from an address regarding the Muslim religion, these being pages 13-18 (with two page 18s). Ali writes, in part (with his spelling errors intact): “The first and most important reason that the individual countries of Europe, Africa, and Asia are recognized as nations is because they occupy a specific area of the Earth…The black man has been actually worthless when it comes to exercising the rights as human beings in an ever-advancing Civilization. So remember, we Cannot demand recognition until we have some land that we Can Call our own.” In very good condition, with some light bleeding of ink to left side from a liquid spill, affecting appearance but not legibility.

Following Ali’s conversion to Islam, the champ routinely seized upon his fame to promote his newly found religious convictions. Such was the purpose of the presentation from which these notes originated, one concerning the teachings of the Islamic faith as they related to African-Americans. Each card was boldly written to allow the boxer to deliver his thoughts in his own inimitable way. A race-and-religion-themed speech handwritten by the champ himself!
