William H. King Enterprises flyer for an October 27, 1966, charity fight at the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center, 8.5 x 11, one page, signed in blue ballpoint, “Muhammad Ali.” Other signers are trainer Angelo Dundee, Ali’s brother and fellow boxer Rahman Ali, fighter James Ellis, and Cleveland Browns running back (and future Hall of Famer) Jim Brown, who attended the bout. In very good condition, with intersecting folds, corner creasing with one passing through Ali’s first name, even toning, and spots of soiling. Promoters of the fight, proceeds from which benefited the Children’s Hospital of Louisville, were still growing accustomed to the boxing great’s name change, as the typed page touts the champ as Cassius Clay with his converted name misspelled underneath as “Mohammed Ali.” Two months earlier, in August of 1966, Ali applied with the Selective Service for conscientious objector status on religious grounds, a move that would eventually cost him the world heavyweight championship.
