Akbar, Silver Rupee, 11.18gm, Dar ul-Khilafat Malpur Mint, AH 984, Kalima type, legend within dotted square on both sides (KM 80.14). Very Fine, Very Rare. Malpur is situated about 60 miles east of Ahmedabad and the mint was active early on during Akbar’s reign from AH 984 to AH 985. Although Ahmedabad was the provincial capital of Gujarat Subha and was the most prolific mint; both Malpur and Patan (which are quite near to Ahmedabad) produced coins for a very short span of about two to three years to support the newly acquired province monetarily and which later ceased to operate.
