Shah Jahan, Silver 1/8 Rupee, 1.43g, ‘Shahada’ type, Daulatabad Mint, Obv: Name of the emperor, Rev: Parts of Shahada followed by the mint name. Extremely fine, extremely rare.
This type for Daulatabad mint was struck in the first reginal year of Shah Jahan, curiously while Daulatabad was still under Nizam Shahi control. It has a unique style of having an intricate floral backdrop for calligraphy, reminiscent of grape blossom. Fractional issues in this type are very rare with only a handful known. This is in all likelihood the first known 1/8th rupee fraction.
